As some of you may know, it’s been a long journey for me following my passion for nutrition and I’m so excited to finally be starting my practice. For those of you who don’t know me, I have been kind of a nutrition geek for the past decade and have an insatiable appetite for learning. I could literally spend an entire day researching and reading scientific journals on a nutrition or natural medicine related topic simply because a friend asked me a question about something I didn’t know the answer to. I hope to use this passion of mine to bring you informative articles that will help you achieve optimal wellness and to feel your absolute best!
One of my biggest areas of focus is the gut because it plays such a vital role in our health. The gut has been called the “second brain” and contains nearly 70% of our immune cells. The human gastrointestinal (GI) tract microflora contains 10 times the number of cells found in the entire human body! It has even recently been considered to be another human organ. So, what does all of this mean with regard to your health? Most people these days have an imbalance of good and bad microflora, which is called dysbiosis.
Some conditions believed to be associated with dysbiosis include:
- Metabolic Syndrome (hypertension, diabetes)
- Obesity
- Autoimmune diseases
- Food intolerances/allergies
- Gluten Sensitivity
- Asthma
- Obesity
- IBS, IBD, Crohn’s Disease
- Depression/Anxiety
- Skin issues (eczema, atopic dermatitis)
The good news is that there are foods and supplements that you include in your diet every day to correct these imbalances and to maintain a healthy microflora. Look for my upcoming e-book that will highlight what causes dysbiosis and the top 3 things that you can implement today to heal your gut.
